Wesley ends season with CAC win over Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse team ended the 2017 season in high note with a 17-7 win over the Southern Virginia Knights in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest on Saturday.

After Southern Virginia tied up the game at six in the early stages of the second half, Wesley powered ahead for the victory behind an 11-1 scoring run to close out the game.

Fallon Fore netted a game-high six goals for Wesley. Fore also assisted on Allison Perugini's shorthanded goal at the end of regulation while adding four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Brianna Bacon tallied a hat trick and recorded an assist and four ground balls. Maddison Cypher and Paige Brehm each registered two goals and an assist in the win.

Perugini, Stacey O'Neale, Ashley Luna and Kathleen Martin each tallied a goal for Wesley.

Shelby Schirmer saved eight shots to earn her sixth win of the season in goal.

Claire Houghtaling had three goals for Southern Virginia.

As a team, Wesley converted 5-of-10 free-position shots. Wesley also scooped up 30 ground balls and went 13-for-16 in clear attempts.

The Wolverines wrap up the 2017 season 6-9 overall and 1-7 in the CAC.
