DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College football and women's lacrosse teams and the Wesley Fit to Serve Living Learning Community (LLC) is sponsoring a food drive throughout the week of Oct. 30 - Nov. 3 and at the Salisbury vs. Wesley football game on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Members of the women's lacrosse and football teams will set up in the College Center on Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to collect items.
The women's lacrosse team will deliver the donations that were collected during the week on Saturday, Nov. 4 to The Food Bank of Delaware in Milford, where they will also be on hand to help for the day. Women's lacrosse will be helping in cleaning out the garden, packing meals, washing coolers, and restocking the pantry.
People attending the football game on Saturday will also be encouraged to bring any canned goods or non-perishable items that will be donated to the Delaware Food Bank's Thanksgiving for All program.
Members of Fit to Serve and the Wesley football team will host a program on Nov. 20 where they will distribute Thanksgiving meal boxes to 50 local Dover families.
The students will look to collect 50 of each of the following items:
- Macaroni and cheese
- Canned or packets of gravy
- Pie crust
- Chocolate pudding mix
- Canned pumpkin
- Cranberry sauce
- Seasoned stuffing mix
- Biscuit mix
- Instant mashed potatoes
- Canned vegetables (green beans, corn, yams and peas)
- Canned fruits (pineapple and apple sauce)
- Pancake mix and syrup
- Apple juice
- Shelf-stable milk (32 oz.)
- Turkey roasting pans
Both organizations will also be accepting cash donations at the game. The gates at Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium on Nov. 4 will open at 10 a.m. and kickoff of the game is at 12 p.m.
