Johnson Breaks Single Game Draw Control Record

DOVER, Del. – Sophomore Margaret Johnson collected 16 draw controls in the 21-19 loss to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday, to break the single game record of 13 set by Jade Marin in 2006.

Wesley got on the board early with unassisted goals from sophomore Cat Bennett (3) and junior Hanna Giaccone (5) to take the lead 2-0. The Griffins responded with a four goal run to take over 4-2.

Freshman Madison Sumner started off Wesley's three goal string off a free position shot followed by senior Kassie Dieter's (4) goal delivered from junior Lindsey Lurz. Giaccone's second goal of the game ended the string to bring the game back 5-4.

The battle would continue with multiple exchanges from both teams to keep the game close until Gwynedd-Mercy was able to pull away leading by 5 with 12:08 remaining bringing the score to 20-15.

The Griffins would only score once more while the Wolverines made a courageous comeback, scoring four more times to bring the game within two.

Senior Kathleen Martin contributed two goals on the day, her firsts of the season.  Senior Emily Caldarelli led in ground balls with 4 while Bennett and Lurz picked up 3.

Sophomore goalie Katelyn Porter made 13 saves of the 34 shots on goal by the Griffins.

Wesley returns to AEC action on Wednesday when they face Cabrini. Draw is set for 5PM.
