DOVER, Del. - Wesley College held visiting Neumann without a shot as the Wolverines picked up a 2-0 shutout victory over the Knights in the season opener for both squads at the Wolverine Soccer Classic.
Gina Orrben scored the game-winner just over two minutes in with an unassisted blast at 2:17 for a 1-0 lead.
Wesley added a second goal during the second half. After one shot hit the crossbar, Amanda Horkey got an assist on Julia DeFelice's first goal fo the year.
The highlight of the evening was a stingy Wolverine defense the made Kim Fearnbach's debut in net a shutout. The backline of Georgia Haubrich, Sara Gergen and Heather Johnson hounded the Knights offense all evening.
Orrben's goal moved her into ninth place all-time at Wesley with 36 points and into a tie for seventh all-time with 16 career goals.
In the first game of the day at the Wolverine Soccer Classic, Marymount picked up a 2-0 win over Washington (Md.).
On the second day of the tournament, Neumann faces Marymount (Va.) at 4:00 PM before Wesley takes on Washington at 7:00 PM.
