DOVER, Del. - The University of Mary Washington (2-0-1, 1-0 CAC) scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat host Wesley College (2-1, 0-1 CAC) in NCAA Div. III at Dr. Scott D. Miller stadium.
Wesley scored first in the 12th minute of the first half. A high entry pass from Kelsey Poulsen (Hockessin, Del.) bounced in front of the the UMW goalie who misjudged the angle. The ball bounced over her head and dribbled into the goal behind her for Paulsen's 2nd goal of the season.
Mary Washington knotted to score at 1 each at the 22 minute mark as Amy Olson (Crofton, Md.) shot the ball past Wesley goalie Kim Feranbach (Pennington, N.J.), fellow teammate Katie Parvin (Moorestown, N.J.) earned the assist.
The Eagles pulled away in the second half as Wesley became more frustrated while earning 9 of their 12 total fouls in the game.
Caitlyn Frick (Chesapeake, Va.) earned the game winner at the 49:54 mark on an assist from Marianne Dubinski (Blacksburg, Va.) off a corner kick.
The Eagles Hannah Pearson (Annandale, Va.) scored the final two goals for the Eagles with assists from Amy Olson (Crofton, Md.) and Nicole Dierkes (Fairfax, Va.).
The loss puts Wesley at 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The Wolverines host Gallaudet University on September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
