DOVER, Del. - York (Pa.)'s Jill Stanley scored three goals as the Spartans spoiled Senior Day at Wesley College, as the Wolverines were handed a 3-0 loss in their home finale.
The YCP (10-6-1, 5-3 CAC) senior scored on a pair of headers in the first half. Stanley put in the game-winner just 1:42 into the game, then headed another one into the net at 20:57.
Steph Mergler assisted on both goals.
In the second half, Stanley cleaned up a mess in front of the goal for her third tally of the afternoon at 53:32.
Wesley (7-10, 2-6 CAC) had its best chance to score at 68:00 when Gina Orrben (Hockessin, Del./A.I. DuPont) struck the ball with the Spartans' Sarah Spanarkel out of position. A YCP defender stepped in front of the attempt to turn away the Wolverines.
Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) played the first 68:46 in goal for the Wolverines, before being forced from the game due to injury. With backup keeper Christine Oliver (Millville, N.J./Millville) also unavailable with an injury, Wesley was forced to put field player Katie Chiolan (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) in net. Chiolan proved up to the task, stopping four Spartan tries in the final 21:14.
Spanarkel picked up the shut out for York, making two saves.
Wesley was outshot 21-5 in the contest.
Playing in their final home game, Wesley honored its six seniors at halftime. Along with Chiolan and Orrben, Georgia Haubrich (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield), Megan Innocenzi (Hainseport, N.J./Bordentown), Becky Kreps (Newark, Del./Newark) and Heather Johnson (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) were recognized.
The Wolverines will conclude their season with a road game at Trinity (D.C.) on Wednesday, October 29 at 4:00 PM.
