SOMERSET, N.J. - Wesley College's Mia Brocco (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) turned in a three-goal afternoon as the Wolverines pounded St. Elizabeth 7-0 in non-conference women's soccer action.
In addition to Brocco's hat trick, Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) added two goals in the contest as Wesley (2-0) scored its most goals in a contest since an 11-0 win over Penn State Abington on September 24, 2009.
The Wolverines held control of play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Screaming Eagles 28-1 in the game.
It took just over a minute for Wesley to take the lead as Chelsi Biener (Newfield, N.J./Delsea Regional) took an assist from Kimberly Juhas (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) just 1:17 into the game for a 1-0 lead.
Kelly Edmunds (Dennisville, N.J./Middle Twp.) notched the first of her two assists of the game on Fearnbach's initial score in the 25th minute. A goal by Lacey Smith (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) in the 33rd minute made it 3-0 at the half.
After Fearnbach scored in the 66th minute, Brocco tallied the Wolverines' final three goals which all came in a span of less than 10 minutes. It was the first time a Wesley player had scored that many goals since Katie Chiolan scored four times against Notre Dame (Md.) on October 9, 2008.
Catherine De La Cruz made 11 saves in the losing effort for Saint Elizabeth.
Wesley will look to make it three in a row when they head to Bryn Mawr on September 8 at 4:30 PM.
