YORK, Pa. - Wesley trailed York (Pa.) by just a single goal in the 77th minute before the Spartans pulled away for a 4-1 victory in Capital Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
York (4-6, 4-0 CAC) had scored twice in the first half, but the Wolverines (6-5, 1-2 CAC) cut the deficit in half in the 73rd minute. Stevi Carpenter (Lester, Pa./Interboro) took a shot off the post, but Samantha Lyon (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) headed the rebound off the crossbar for her first goal of the season to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Wolverines had a chance to tie the contest with a corner kick just minutes after scoring, but it was the Spartans who struck in the 77th minute when Beth Bunn carried the ball past the keeper for the game-winner.
York was awarded a penalty kick with just over three minutes remaining in the contest, which Dale Mason converted to seal the win.
Sydney Kahan (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) made 10 saves for the Wolverines. Melanie Glessner did not make a save in net for the Spartans, who outshot Wesley 21-2.
Jordan Snook opened the scoring in the sixth minute with an assist from Lacey Phillips, while Dani Bock benefitted from a Mary Hunkeler feed with just eight seconds left in the half to give York its 2-0 advantage at the intermission.
Wesley hosts Salisbury on October 5 at 7:00 PM.
