DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's soccer team blanked Marymount (Va.), 2-0, on Thursday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The Wolverines are now 4-2-1 overall while the Saints fall to 3-2.
Samantha Lyon scored the go-ahead goal for the Wolverines in the ninth minute, her second game-winner in as many years against the Saints. Lyon found the back of the net after a corner kick by Megan DeFalco grazed off the Saints goalkeeper's hands and found her foot.
With 16 seconds left in the first half, Chelsi Biener chased down a loose ball and booted a 25-yard shot from the right wing, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage.
Both teams took four shots apiece in the first half, followed by another seven for both squads in the second.
Sydney Kahan made five saves for the Navy & White, tallying her fourth clean sheet of the season. Victoria Wyand stopped six shots in the losing effort.
The Wolverines are back home on Saturday night, when they host Cairn University, formerly Philadelphia Biblical University, at 7:30.
