2013 Women’s Soccer Captains Announced

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College Head Women's Soccer Coach Ed Muntz announced that Samantha Lyon, Rachel Kurtz and Samantha Barker have been named team captains for the 2013 season on Wednesday afternoon.

A native of Jackson, N.J., Lyon is coming off another quality season at midfield and has guided the Wolverine offense for the last three seasons. Lyon enters her senior season as a three-time CAC All-Academic and starting midfielder for Wesley Soccer.

Kurtz has been a two year starting center back who has anchored the Wolverines back four. A two time CAC All-Academic recipient from Langhorn, Pa., Kurtz has started in 34 straight games and will be looked to continue her strong defensive of presence.

Barker is a returning team captain from the 2012 season who is looking to recover from a season ending injury suffered in the first game of the year. Hailing from Rockaway, N.J., Barker is a two year starting back for the Wolverines and a three time CAC All-Academic player.

"They are such quality student-athletes that represent the strong traditions of our program," said Muntz. "With the high expectations to build off of the 2012 season, I look forward to watching them lead our team this year."

The Wolverines open up their 2013 campaign at Scott D. Miller Stadium on August 31 against Gwynedd-Mercy at 7 pm.
