DOVER, Del. – Samantha Brannigan earned a career high 16 saves in goal as the Wesley College women's soccer team was edged by Christopher Newport, 1-0 at Scott D. Miller Stadium Saturday evening.
The Wolverines stand at 4-12-1 overall and 0-7 in the CAC while the Captains improve to 13-2-1 and 7-0 in conference action.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 first half tie. In the second period, the Captains scored the lone goal of the game when Kelsey Thomas sent a cross to Bupe Okeowo in front of the goal for the finish.
Wesley played excellent defense, holding the Captains to one goal on 39 total shots. Brannigan's 16 saves were a game high while Haley Casanova collected 0 saves in the win.
Three seniors were recognized at halftime for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field. Rachel Kurtz, Samantha Barker, and Samantha Lyon each played in their final game at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
The Wolverines return to the pitch October 30th when they travel to Salisbury for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
