Cummings Stays Hot, Wolverines Outduel Ravens 2-0

ROSEMONT, Pa. - Dover native Aleya Cummings kept her scoring streak going, netting a pair of goals to lift the Wesley College Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Rosemont College on Wednesday evening at the Ravens Athletic Complex in Rosemont, Pa.

With her two goals on Wednesday night, Cummings has scored 10 times in her past four games. The Caesar Rodney graduate entered Wednesday tied for first in the nation in goals per game (2.00) and tied for third in total goals (8). With her two scores, she ties national leader Jordan Lazarich of Lycoming College for the most in Division III so far this season.

The first half went by without a score, though the Wolverines outshot the Ravens 13-5. Wesley controlled the pace of play for the first 45 minutes but couldn't find a breakthrough and went into the half tied at 0-0.

It didn't take long for Cummings to find the net in the second half. Just 21 seconds after the opening whistle, the freshman tore through the Rosemont defense and netted an unassisted score to put Wesley ahead 1-0.

In the 67th minute, Aline Check gathered a ball out of the back and fed Cummings again as she slipped behind the defense. The left-footed striker finished off the break, netting her 10th goal of the season and putting the Wolverines ahead 2-0.

The Wesley defense held off the Rosemont attack as Sam Brannigan made five saves to preserve the shutout, her third of the season. The defensive line of Ashley Kistler, Natalie Trujillo, Kayla Ryan, and Amanda Butkus helped to make sure the Ravens were kept off the board as Wesley left Rosemont with the 2-0 victory.

The Wolverines improve to 3-2 on the season and will return to action on Saturday evening when the team hosts Lehman College (N.Y.) in another non-conference bout.
