STEVENSON, Md. - The Wesley College women's tennis team qualified for the CAC Tournament for the first time since joining the conference with a 6-3 win over Stevenson.
The Wolverines (4-3, 2-4 CAC) captured one win in double play, before taking five of six in singles action.
The duo of Kori Isken (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) and Stephanie Bentley (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore Central) picked up an 8-6 win at second doubles over Michelle Huber and Wendy Ogbolu. The Mustangs (3-8, 0-6 CAC), however, captured wins at both first and third singles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
In singles play, Rebecca Pennington (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) toppled Ogbolu 6-1, 6-1 at first singles. Isken picked up her second victory of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Julie Strong at No. 2 singles. Marina Palma (Lanham, Md./Duvall) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Sam Baugher at fourth singles. At fifth singles, Caitlin Grinstead (Dover, Del./Dover) notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Michelle Huber. Julia Wright (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) needed three sets to dispatch Rachel Mullet at sixth singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
With the win, the Wolverines captured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, making the playoffs for the first time since joining the circuit before the 2007-08 season.
