Wolverines Take Third in CAC Championships

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Wesley College Women's Track and Field team earned three individual golds and two relay wins to earn a program-best third place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.

The squad finished with 118 points, just 10 behind second-place finisher Salisbury and 60 points behind event winner Chirstopher Newport. The Wolverines topped York, Mary Washington, Penn State Harrisburg, and Mary Washington.

Alexia Mitchell earned a first place finish in the 100m with a 12.29. Elizsha Streeter finished third in the 100m with a 12.53 but rebounded with a first place finish in the 200m, crossing in 24.89. She also took second place in the 400m with a 57.53 finishing time. Streeter was also a member of the Wolverines' gold medal 4x100m and 4x400m teams. 

The 4x100m team earned first with a time of 48.21. Streeter teamed with Angel Hall, Briana Artis, and Alexia Mitchell to earn the gold. In the 4x400m, the Wolverine team of Hall, Artis, Streeter and Quadira Minus earned gold with a 3:55.45 mark. Both relay teams set new Outdoor Championship recrods.

Dieunise Desir led three Wesley runners to finish with top five finishes in the 800m. Desir crossed in second with a time of 2:21.84 while Chiquita Deline and Danae Carter crossed fourth and fifth at 2:23.71 and 2:23.94. Desir also placed fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 12:35.35

Kaylah Mitchell took second in the long jump, leaping 5.10m while Monshea Newsome-Murray took first in the triple jump. The freshman reached 11.41m to take the gold. Jourdyn Beverly was Wesley's top thrower in the tournament, finishing fourth overall with a 11.70m heave. She took seventh in the discus with 32.59m as well. Taylor Rae Danforth performed well in the field, taking sixth in the hammer throw (36.96m) and ninth in the javelin (25.50m).

Wesley will continue on their path to NCAA Nationals next weekend when they travel to Philadelphia to participate in the Penn Relays.
