Wesley women collect second at CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College women's track & field team came in second place at the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Christopher Newport.

The Wolverines tallied 137 points in the conference meet. Christopher Newport claimed the women's team trophy, finishing with 179 points.

The women impressed with 19 top-five finishes at the meet. The 4x400-meter relay team of Elizsha Streeter, Briana Artis, Quadira Minus and Angel Hall retained their crown in the event with a time of 4:01.42, finishing over seven seconds ahead of the second place team.

Jourdyn Beverly and Jasmine Brown took home CAC Championships in the weight throw and the triple jump respectfully. Beverly won the weight throw with a heave of 14.58 meters while Brown won the triple jump with a leap of 10.77 meters. Beverly also finished second in the shot put (12.10m). Brown placed second in the high jump (1.66m), fourth in the long jump (4.98m) and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46).

Lekeshia Brown-Myrick also did well in the jumps for the Wolverines. Brown-Myrick finished second in the triple jump (10.52m) to place right behind Brown. Brown-Myrick collected third in the long jump with a mark of 5.11 meters.

In the 60-meter dash, three Wolverines advanced to the finals of the event. Ashley Morris placed fifth in the 60 (8.13) while Streeter (8.48) and Hall (8.56) went 7-8 in the finals. Morris did earn second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.09 seconds.

Artis and Streeter came in third and fourth places respectively in the 200-meter dash. Artis clocked in at 26.31 seconds while Streeter finished in 26.48 seconds.

The Wolverines did well in the mid-distance events as well. In the 400-meter dash, Hall registered a second-place finish (59.40) while Streeter (1:00.26) and Minus (1:01.22) finished in fourth and sixth respectively. Dieunise Desir placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.08 and Chiquita Deline finished fifth in 2:28.55.

The relay team Desir, Deline, Danae Carter and Courtney Williams rounded out the top finishes for the women with a second-place time in the distance medley, finishing in 13:04.23.

The Wolverine track teams will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 26 when they take part in the Last Chance Qualifier, held at George Mason University.
