Wesley women place third at CAC Indoor Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College women's track and field team placed third overall at the two-day Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Christopher Newport University. 

Ashley Morris continued her momentum from the preliminaries to take the indoor crown in the 60-meter hurdles. After setting the meet record yesterday in the event, Morris finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.96 seconds.

Jourdyn Beverly won the weight throw yesterday with the heave of 14.94 meters (49-0.25). Today, Beverly secured third in the shot put with a mark of 11.70 meters (38-04.75). 

Evelina Sloboh and Maysha Foster placed 2-3 in the 60-meter dash. Sloboh clocked in at 7.87 seconds while Foster finished in 7.94 seconds. Morris placed fifth in the 60 with a time of 8.15 seconds.

Angel Hall, Briana Artis, Quadira Minus and Rakiya Taylor notched the silver in the 4x400-meter relay finishing in 4:07.50. Individually, Hall collected third place in the 400-meters (59.46) and eighth place in the 60 dash (8.87). Taylor placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.63) and Artis finished eighth in the 200 (26.85).

Briyanna Woods picked up sixth place in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:01.75.

In the jumps, Lekeshia Brown-Myrick earned third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.60 meters (34-9.5). Teyri Reed finished right behind Brown-Myrick in fourth place with a mark of 10.57 meters (34-8.25).

As a team, Wesley totaled 93 points. Host Christopher Newport picked up the women's team championship with 149 points.

The Wolverines will gear up for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in March by participating in the George Mason Last Chance Meet on Sunday, Feb. 25.
