ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Navy Spring Meet on Saturday.
Anthony Anastasi broke his own record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in sixth place with a time of 10:25.00. He bested his previous time of 10:41.99 set at the Navy Men's Invitational in 2018.
The men's sprinters and hurdlers performed well at the meet. Kai Cole and John Heriot continued their impressive showings in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Cole placed second in the 100-meter dash (10.77) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.50) while Heriot finished second in the 200-meter dash (21.49) and third in the 100-meter dash (10.90).
Javonte Freeman picked up a pair of top-10 finishes in the hurdles. He placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.07) and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.31).
Kalieta, Heriot, Cousar and Jordan Dillard won the 4x400-meter relay, cruising to a win in 3:19.55. Their relay time was over two seconds faster than the second-place time.
The Wesley men tallied two top-10 marks in the javelin. Justin Cowgill recorded a second-place throw of 48.00 meters (157-6) and D'Shon Sanders finished in seventh with a throw of 30.56 meters (100.3).
DaQuay Harris-Winbush registered a fourth-place leap in the long jump with a mark of 6.66 meters (21-10.25).
Evelina Sloboh paced the Wesley women's efforts on the track. She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.08 seconds. She also earned a sliver medal in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.20 seconds.
Maysha Foster and Rakiya Taylor finished in sixth and ninth place respectively in the 100. Foster finished in 12.55 seconds while Taylor clocked in at 12.74 seconds.
Jontae Hankins secured sixth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:27.32. Shaniel Thomas notched a ninth-place time (16.26) in the 100-meter hurdles. Briana Artis placed 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:01.37).
Teyri Reed picked up three top-10 finishes in the field. She placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.20 meters (33-5.75), ninth in the javelin with a heave of 20.72 meters (68-0) and 10th in the long jump with a leap of 4.89 meters (16-0.5).
Lekeshia Brown-Myrick and Jourdyn Beverly each collected a pair of top-10 places. Brown-Myrick finished in fifth place in the triple jump (10.27m, 33-8.5) and sixth in the long jump (5.08m, 16-8) while Beverly finished in eighth place in both the shot put (11.26m, 36-11.5) and the discus (34.10m, 111-10).
Victoria Robinson rounded out the women top finishers with a sixth-place leap in the triple jump (10.25m, 33-7.5).
Wesley will be back in action on Saturday, April 13 when they take part in the Salisbury Eastern Shorre Challenge.
