STEVENSON, Md. - The Wesley College volleyball team was swept in three sets in its Capital Athletic Conference opener at Stevenson.
Scores were 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.
The Mustangs (6-4, 1-0 CAC) jumped ahead 8-2 in the first set on a kill by Alex Mercer, and led by as many as eight. The Wolverines (2-9, 0-1 CAC), however, battled back with an 8-2 run of their own to tie the set at 21-21 after an ace by Sophie Reed (Dover, Del./St. Thomas More). Stevenson rebounded with the final four points of the set.
A kill by Reed early in the second set lifted the Wolverines to a 9-3 lead, but Stevenson regrouped to take a 12-11 lead and never looked back. The third set saw the Mustangs jumpe out to an early lead and keep Wesley at bay to take the match.
Reed led the Wolverines with 14 assists and nine digs, while also adding six kills. Lilia Brekke (Prescott, Ariz./Caesar Rodney (Del.)) notched eight kills and had a pair of aces.
Mercer had 11 kills to lead Stevenson.
