COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus won the decisive fifth set 17-15 to outlast Wesley College in non-conference volleyball action.
Carle Ax (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) had 12 kills, 20 assists, five aces, 14 digs and four blocks in the match. Nettie Choice (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) had 13 kills and three blocks. Lilia Brekke (Prescott, Ariz./Caesar Rodney (Del.)) had nine kills and 17 digs for the Wolverines (5-14).
In the first set, the score was tied at 25-25 before the Bears (6-10) scored the final two points to pick up the win. The Wolverines trailed 24-22 in the second set, but rallied for the final four points of the set for a 26-24 victory. Wesley took a 2-1 lead in the match behind a 9-0 run for a 25-16 win.
The Bears, however, went on a 9-1 run in fourth set to win 25-18 and force a fifth set. Wesley went up 8-3 in the fifth set after back to back aces by Ax. Ursinus fought back a 4-0 mini-run tied the set at 11-11. Neither team could get more than a one point advantage until the Bears scored consecutive points with the score tied at 15-15 to take the match.
Gabriella Galleo led Ursinus with a match-high 14 kills and 20 digs.
Wesley hosts the Wolverine Classic on Sunday, October 4.
