DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College volleyball team nearly pushed CAC power St. Mary's (Md.) to a fourth before falling 25-16, 25-13, 26-24.
After St. Mary's (Md.) won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-13, Wesley (5-28, 1-6 CAC) fought back in the third. The Wolverines took an 8-4 lead before the Seahawks (17-6, 4-2 CAC) went ahead with a 9-4 run that made it 13-12. Wesley still trailed by three late before kills by Jacquelle Boone (New Plymouth, Idaho/Gem State Academy) and Carle Ax (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) and an ace by Marissa Incitti (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) tied the set at 24-24. St. Mary's, however, scored the final two points to take the set and the match.
Ax, Kristen Roberts (Loveland, Colo./Middletown (Del.)) and Lindsay DiMuzio (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) paced the Wolverines with seven kills each. Ax added 15 assists and four aces. Samantha McCracken (Wilmington, Del./John Dickinson) split the setting with Ax and dished out 11 assists.
The Wolverines close out the regular season at Frostburg State on October 25.
