DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College volleyball team dropped five set decisions to Immaculata and Rowan in a tri-match at Wentworth Gymnasium.
The Wolverines opened the day against the Mighty Macs. Down two sets to one, Wesley jumped ahead 15-6 in set number four and cruised to the win to force a fifth and final set. Immaculata regrouped and scored the first eight points of the shortened game to claim the match, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 17-25, 15-6.
Carle Ax (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) had nine kills, 16 assists, six aces and two blocks in the match. Sharis Allen (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) matched her with nine kills. Kristen Roberts (Loveland, Colo./Middletown (Del.)) added eight kills, three aces, eight digs and two blocks. Stephanie Blakely (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) had 18 kills, the most for a Wolverine this season, while Ashley Pierce (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) added 11. Cristina Marruffo (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) added 11 assists.
Against the Profs, none of the first four sets were decided by more than three points. The Wolverines took the first two sets, but with its back against the wall, Rowan came back to win the next two. The Profs jumped ahead 7-2 and held on to take the match, 26-28, 22-25, 27-25, 26-24, 15-10.
Roberts continued her strong play with 14 kills, five aces, seven digs and six blocks in the match. Allen notched a career-high with 12 kills. Ax netted seven kills, 25 assists and four blocks. Pierce had 18 digs, while Blakely added a dozen. Marruffo dished out 14 assists.
Wesley hosts Frostburg State on October 9 at 1:00 PM.
