ABINGTON, Pa. - The Wesley College volleyball team swept a pair of matches against Penn State Abington and Gwynedd-Mercy.
The wins give the Wolverines four wins in their past six matches.
Wesley opened the match with a three-set sweep of the Nittany Lions. The Wolverines won the first set 25-15 and kept Penn State Abington at arms length in the final two sets as well, winning 25-18 and 25-16.
Kristen Roberts (Loveland, Colo./Middletown (Del.)) paced Wesley in the match with nine kills, three aces and a block. Sharis Allen (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) had six kills and an ace, while Carle Ax (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) had three aces. Cristina Marruffo (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) had 15 assists, three aces and a block.
Johangelie Thomas led the Nittany Lions with eight kills.
The Wolverines completed the afternoon sweep with a 3-1 win over the Griffins. After Wesley won 25-19 in the first set, Gwynedd-Mercy rebounded for a 25-20 victory in the second set to even the match at one set apiece. The Wolverines, however, closed things out with wins of 25-18 and 25-22 to put the match away.
Jessica Taylor (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) had a team-high 12 kills and added two aces, nine digs and two blocks. Ax had 10 kills, two aces, 12 digs and three blocks. Roberts served up seven aces and had 11 digs. Allen added eight kills and Marruffo had 20 assists, three aces and seven digs.
Wesley hit .304 in the match.
With the wins, the Wolverines matched their win total from 2010 with five matches still to play.
