DOVER, Del. – Sharis Allen posted a career-high 17 kills to lead the Wesley College volleyball team to a five-set victory over Keystone College (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10) on Tuesday night at Wentworth Gymnasium. The Wolverines improve to 10-4 on the year, which is one victory short of their program-record, while the Giants fall to 7-6.
A senior from Dover, Del., Allen threw down 17 kills on 34 swings with just four errors for an impressive .382 hitting percentage. Allen also got help offensively from freshman outside hitter Arnelle Akakpo, who tallied 11 kills. Lindsay DiMuzio and Beth Schlecker finished with eight apiece while Ashley Klein assisted on a season-high 41 kills.
Defensively, Meghan Marshall grabbed 34 digs while Samantha Weber (14) and Rachel Hausler (10) also were in double figures. Tatum Jones also was credited with three blocks while Schlecker recorded two.
In the fifth and final set, the Wolverines hit .308 and got out to a quick 9-0 advantage which proved to be insurmountable. Klein, the Capital Athletic Conference leader in service aces coming into the match, recorded a pair of aces in the opening points of the decider, while Allen tallied three kills and DiMuzio ended it with an ace.
Wesley returns to action when it hosts Bryn Athyn on Thursday, September 26 at 6 pm. The clash with the Lions is also Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night where each Wolverine will be joined on the court by a staff member of their choosing.
