LINCOLN, Pa. – Despite a double-double by Tionne Graves-Brown, the Wesley College volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker at Lincoln University (25-15, 19-25, 27-29, 25-23, 15-9) on Tuesday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. The Wolverines now stand at 7-3 overall while the Lions move to 1-4.
Graves-Brown tallied 13 kills and 19 digs, both season-highs, while hitting .143 along with four service aces but Wesley hit -.053 for the night which proved costly. Jessica Tynes added 11 kills while Tania Rounds recorded eight more.
Lincoln took the first set but Wesley managed to tie it up at one frame apiece as it led from the get-go. The Wolverines sealed the second set with a 6-1 run to take an 18-9 lead after a kill by Meg Fernandez.
Wesley kept up the momentum early in the third set and led by as many as 17-9 but Lincoln regrouped to tie it up before a kill by Tynes and a block by Schlecker gave the Navy & White the 2-1 advantage.
Lincoln won the fourth set by closing out the frame with a 7-1 run and carried that streak into the deciding set by scoring the first eight points. A kill by Codi Ziolkowski and an ace by Weber started a Wesley rally and cut the deficit to 11-9 but the Lions scored four-straight points to take the match.
The Wolverines return to action on Thursday, September 18 when they host Gwynedd Mercy at 7 pm.
