ARLINGTON, Va. – Wesley College's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Marymount (Va.) Tri-Match at the Verizon Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon. First was a four set (26-24, 28-26, 23-25, 27-25) loss to Methodist followed by a straight-set (25-20, 25-20, 25-5) Capital Athletic Conference defeat by the Saints.
In a tightly contested match against the Monarchs, Tionne Graves-Brown spiked a season-high 15 kills and added 12 assists for a double-double. Classmate Jessica Tynes also finished with 11 kills while Kadijah Doughty and Codi Ziolkowski added nine each.
Defensively, Meghan Marshall and Samantha Weber recorded 17 digs apiece while Charlene Coyne blocked a team-high six balls. Tatum Jones and Graves-Brown also blocked three hits as well while Beth Schlecker (26 assists) and Ziolkowski (17 assists) quarterbacked the Wolverines to a .113 hitting percentage for the match.
Coyne, Ziolkowski and Tania Rounds all had three blocks in the loss to the Saints as Rounds recorded four kills with no errors. Ziolkowski led the team with five kills while Marshall was credited with a team-high ten digs.
The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, October when they travel to York (Pa.) for a 7 pm CAC start.
