DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's volleyball team dropped a straight-set (25-8, 25-16, 25-8) Capital Athletic Conference matchup to 13th-ranked Christopher Newport on Thursday night at Wentworth Gymnasium. The Wolverines now stand at 11-10 overall and 1-3 in the CAC while the Captains improve to 22-3 on the year with a 4-0 league mark.
Wesley started the match strong, scoring the first three points of the first set on a kill by Tionne Graves-Brown, followed by blocks by Charlene Coyne and Codi Ziolkowski. Christopher Newport quickly stopped the early momentum with a 5-1 run and following a service error, scored nine straight points to take the first set.
The Captains took an early lead in the second set but the Wolverines made it interesting with a pair of four-point runs thanks in large part some great defense, especially Coyne who's three total blocks matched Ziolkowski for a team-high. Ziolkowski also tied Graves-Brown with a team-high four kills.
Christopher Newport totaled 18 service aces and 20 total blocks while hitting .232 for the night.
The Wolverines host Frostburg State for a CC matchup on Saturday, October 18 at 11 am in their annual Pink Match.
