HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Wesley College volleyball team earned their first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season in a big way, taking down Penn State Harrisburg 3-0 on Wednesday night on the road.
Tionne Graves-Brown led the team with 10 kills and grabbed her seventh double-double of the season with 11 digs. Codi Ziolkowski had a big game on both sides of the net, smashing seven kills and roofing six total blocks, including a solo stop. Beth Schlecker led the team with 27 assists while Meghan Marshall scooped up 13 digs and added an ace.
Wesley got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the first set on five kills from four different Wolverines, but PSU-Harrisburg came scrambling back to take the lead late in the set. Trailing 22-21, the Navy and White rattled off four straight points, including a pair of clutch kills from Jessica Tynes, to earn a 25-22 first game win.
The second game was a back-and-forth battle with Wesley leading for most of the set. The Wolverines were ahead by as many as five points, but found themselves tied at 24-24. After a PSU-Harrisburg service error, the Wesley squad went to their offensive leader for the game-winning kill and Graves-Brown did not disappoint providing the game-sealing kill for a 26-24 win.
In the third, the Wolverines gave PSU-Harrisburg their largest lead of the night, a 3-1 advantage, on a pair of back-to-back attack errors. The Wesley squad came battling back to take control of the third set and led by as many as eight points. The Nittany Lions made an effort at a comeback, fending off match point on four occasions, but the Wolverines finished the night out with a 25-20 third game victory for a 3-0 sweep.
The Wesley squad improves to 11-6 on the year with a 1-2 mark in the CAC. The squad will return to action on Friday, October 9 when they play host to Marymount (Va.).
