Wolverines Drop a Pair at Methodist Tri-Match

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Wesley College volleyball team took a pair of tough losses on Saturday, falling to Randolph College 3-0 and dropping a 3-1 outing to host Methodist University in a tri-match. 

Tionne Graves-Brown was outstanding in both contests, totaling 32 kills and 37 digs in the two matches combined. She notched 14 kills and earned 20 digs against Randolph and grabbed 18 kills and 17 digs against Methodist. Codi Ziolkowski was the only other Wolverine to crack double-digit kills in either match, snagging 12 against Randolph.

Beth Schlecker tallied 60 assists on the day, dishing off 29 against Randolph and 31 against Methodist. The setter also picked up 11 digs against Methodist. Meghan Marshall earned 17 digs against Randolph and picked up 12 against Methodist. Tania Rounds led the team with three service aces on the day and added three solo blocks to her conference-leading tally.

The Wolverines went with the two-headed monster of Graves-Brown and Ziolkowski for most of the day's first match against Randolph. The pair combined for 26 kills on 76 total attacks but it wasn't enough to stop Randolph. The Wildcats took the match in a sweep, 25-21, 25-21, 26-24.

Against Methodist, the Wolverines came out look stronger, especially in the first set when they swung .296. Graves-Brown finished with 18 kills but couldn't carry the team to a victory as they fell to the host Methodist squad 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21.

Wesley moves to 11-9 on the season and will return to Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, October 14 when they play host to Salisbury.
