Wolverines Earn Win on Senior Day

DOVER, Del. - On a day dedicated to a pair of graduating seniors, the Wesley College volleyball team stepped up to celebrate their seniors with a victory. The Wolverines earned a 3-0 sweep over Washington Adventist University on Sunday afternoon.

Samantha Weber and Meghan Marshall were honored in a pre-game ceremony. Weber finished with two kills, four digs, and a service ace in the victory. Marshall earned a team-high nine digs, adding to her Wesley program-record kill total. The senior will graduate as the team's all-time digs leader, currently with 1,521.

The Wolverines jumped out to a fast start, taking the first game 25-10. The team began the set with a 7-0 lead thanks to Beth Schlecker's serving. The setter finished the day with eight service aces, a career-high. Wesley spread the ball around and hit .263 as a team to earn the first set win.

In the second set, the Wolverines fell behind 5-0 to begin the frame. The squad composed itself to regain the lead with seven straight points and ran away with the match, outscoring the Shock 25-4 the rest of the way for the 25-9 second set win.

In the third, the squad mixed up the lineup, allowing their seniors to stay on the floor. Weber earned a pair of kills in the third set and Marshall picked up an assist as the team rolled on to win the third set 25-5. Charlene Coyne served the team's final seven points, while Kristin Wissler and Juanita Petty each earned a pair of kills in the third.

Wesley improves to 12-11 on the season and will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Lancaster Bible College for a tri-match with LBC and Hood College.
