ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Wesley College volleyball team entered a tri-match against Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's College and Messiah College on Saturday afternoon, but were swept in both matches.
Tionne Graves-Brown led the team in kills with eight in both matches. She also scooped up a team-best 10 digs against St. Mary's. Beth Schlecker added 21 assists against the Seahawks while Charlene Coyne recorded four blocks. Against Messiah, Schlecker dished off 17 assists while Codi Ziolkowski chipped in with eight. Meghan Marshall earned a team-high 13 digs in the match.
The Wolverines came out flat against the Seahawks, falling 25-9 in the first set. The team seemed to be back on track in the second pushing St. Mary's to the brink, but the Navy and White couldn't get over the hump and fell 25-23. In the third, the Seahawks earned a sweep with a 25-12 win for the 3-0 sweep.
Against Messiah, the Wolverines hit at a much higher percentage clip, but found similar results. The squad fell in the first set 25-19 and went on to drop the second and third with identical 25-14 scores.
Wesley falls to 12-15 on the season with a 1-6 mark in conference play. The team will travel to Christopher Newport on Wednesday to face the Captains before returning home for their final regular season match with Southern Virginia on Saturday, October 31.
