TOWSON, Md. - The Wesley College Volleyball team took down the Goucher College Gophers on Saturday afternoon, dropping their hosts 3-0.
Tionne Graves-Brown finished with a double-double registering 12 kills and 13 digs. Lindsay Burg finished with 17 assists while Beth Schlecker dished off 10. Burg also led the team with three solo blocks.
In the first set Wesley took a 7-3 lead but the Gophers scored four straight points to tie the match at 7-7 and then again at 10-10. After back and forth play, Wesley took their largest lead of the set, gaining a 21-13 advantage, but the Gopher rallied back with seven straight. From that point forward it was nip and tuck until the score was tied at 24-24. Wesley maintained control of the serve after each team earned a side out to win the first set 27-25.
In the second set, the Wolverines took a 12-3 lead in the early going and parlayed that into a 25-18 second set victory. In the third, the Wolverines jumped out to an early lead once again, going head 12-5 before pulling away for a 25-18 third set win for the sweep.
Wesley moves to 5-3 on the season and will host John Jay and Washington Adventist in a tri-match on Sunday in Wentworth Gym beginning at 1 p.m.
