WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Wesley College Volleyball team took a pair of losses at the Gallaudet Invitational on Saturday, falling 3-0 to DeSales and dropped a match 3-1 to Rutgers-Newark.
In the first match, Jessica Tynes led the team with 11 kills, adding four digs. Lindsay Burg and Beth Schlecker split the setting duties with Schlecker dishing off 10 assists and Burg earning 16. Tionne Graves-Brown added six kills and a team-high 15 digs. The Wolverines hit at just a .132 clip as they were swept in straight sets by DeSales.
In the second match, Wesley jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 first game win. The Wolverines led by as many as four points in the game and never trailed as six different players registered at least one kill. Codi Ziolkowski led the way with four kills in the game.
The Navy and White appeared well on their way to another game victory, leading the Scarlet Knights 14-9 in game two, but Rutgers-Newark came storming back to tie at 15-15. The Wolverines battled with the lead fluctuating by no more than one point until the Scarlet Knights took the game 26-24.
The Navy and White lost momentum with the second game loss and Rutgers-Newark took advantage winning game three 25-16 and game four 25-20.
The squad fell to 1-3 on the weekend after splitting sweeps on Friday. Wesley moves to 8-7 on the season and will take on Penn State Harrisburg in their Capital Athletic Conference opener on Friday, Sept. 30.
