DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Volleyball team earned a non-conference win on Tuesday night, downing the Lancaster Bible College Chargers 3-1 at Wentworth Gym.
Tionne Graves-Brown and Jessica Tynes each recorded 12 kills to lead four Wolverines with double-digit kills. Kristin Wissler led the team with 18 digs while Graves-Brown and Tynes each earned a double-double with 14 and 13 digs respectively. Beth Schlecker dished off 18 assists while Lindsay Burg handed out 28. Ziolkowski led the team's net defense with three blocks including a huge solo block in the fourth game.
In the first game, the Chargers took a 9-7 lead in the early going but the Wolverines gained the lead on a block by Graves-Brown and Ziolkowski and never looked back. The squad led by as many as six points and never trailed the rest of the first game to take a 25-22 win.
The second game was a letdown as the team held an 18-16 lead but gave it away late and fell 25-20. The squad bounced back in the third though, shaking off the second game and coming out swinging. The Wolverines were tied 9-9 but ran away with a 16-8 finish the rest of the way to earn the 25-18 win.
In the fourth, Wesley swung at a staggering .433 rate, recording 18 kills on just 30 attempts with five errors. With the game tied at 16-16 the Wolverines turned momentum their way with four huge consecutive points. Jessica Tynes lit up a kill and then teamed with Ziolkowski for a block on the next point. Ziolkowski followed with a huge solo block and then Elisa Hackendorn put down an errant set by the Chargers to make it 20-16. Wesley never looked back from that point and ran off to a 25-20 fourth set win to complete the 3-1 victory.
Wesley moves to 10-14 on the year and will compete again on Thursday, October 20 when they host Lincoln.
