DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Volleyball team took time to honor four-year senior and two-year captain Beth Schlecker before the game, but could not send her off with a victory as the squad fell to Frostburg State University 3-0 in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
Schlecker finished her career in style, adding to her program-record assists total with 14. The senior added a pair of kills, four digs and a block. Tionne Graves-Brown and Jessica Tynes each recorded a team-high nine kills on the day.
The Wolverines came out flat after the emotional pre-game ceremony, falling in the first game 25-12. The Bobcats swung at a .536 clip to finish off 17 kills in the first game alone.
In the second game, Wesley appeared to wake up, competing with the Bobcats from start to finish. The Wolverines stuck with the visitors up to 19-19, but Frostburg finished on a 6-3 run to take it 25-22.
In the third, Wesley hung around with the Bobcats again with it being tied 19-19 just like the second. The Bobcats repeated their script, this time going on a 6-0 run to finish 25-19 and complete their sweep.
Wesley finishes their season at 11-17 on the year. The squad will graduate just one senior, Beth Schlecker. In her four year career, Beth has recorded 173 kills, 90 aces, 376 digs, and 48 blocks. Beth ranks sixth all-time in Wesley history in matches played and sets played, second all-time in assists per set, and holds the Wesley all-time single-match, single-season, and career records for assists, tallying a total of 1,463 career assists.
