Burris Third at Delaware State
SMYRNA, Del. - Wesley College's Tristin Burris (Camden, Del./Polytech) claimed third place despite competing against entirely Division I and II competition at the Delaware State Invitational.
Burris turned in a time of 20:05.27 on the 5,000-meter course, less than 10 seconds off the pace. She narrowly missed becoming just the fourth runner in school history to break 20 minutes.
Kristine Bailey (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen) followed her for the Wolverines in 21st place in 24:09.47. Twila McCrea (Laurel, Del./Laurel) registered a 26:25.43 to finish 33rd.
Tamara Backus (Newark, Del./Glasgow) and Laura Cvelich (North Plainfield, N.J./Koinonia Academy) rounded out the Wesley contingent. Backus, running her first race, crossed the finish line in 34:00.00, while Cvelich took 35:44.51 to complete her run.
The Wolverines finished seventh as a team. The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore took top honors.
Wesley is back in action on September 17 at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational.
