Burris Third at Delaware State

SMYRNA, Del. - Wesley College's Tristin Burris (Camden, Del./Polytech) claimed third place despite competing against entirely Division I and II competition at the Delaware State Invitational.

Burris turned in a time of 20:05.27 on the 5,000-meter course, less than 10 seconds off the pace.  She narrowly missed becoming just the fourth runner in school history to break 20 minutes.

Kristine Bailey (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen) followed her for the Wolverines in 21st place in 24:09.47.  Twila McCrea (Laurel, Del./Laurel) registered a 26:25.43 to finish 33rd.

Tamara Backus (Newark, Del./Glasgow) and Laura Cvelich (North Plainfield, N.J./Koinonia Academy) rounded out the Wesley contingent.  Backus, running her first race, crossed the finish line in 34:00.00, while Cvelich took 35:44.51 to complete her run.

The Wolverines finished seventh as a team.  The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore took top honors.

Wesley is back in action on September 17 at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational.
