Wesley College Athletics Update Regarding COVID-19

Wesley College Athletics Update Regarding COVID-19

UPDATED AS OF 3/18/20 AT 12:00 P.M.

Lancaster, Pa. – With the safety and well-being of our students and campus communities being paramount, and the rapid and evolving nature of COVID 19, the Atlantic East Conference, with unanimous support from the Presidents Council, made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining 2020 spring season and championships, effectively immediately. For more details click here:

We recognize the disappointment that this decision will bring to our student-athletes, families and fans; however, with the new CDC recommendations and ever-changing local, state and national restrictions, we felt it was in the best interest of our student-athletes, campus support staff and local communities.

Additional information, including links to institutional updates and NCAA actions are below.

NCAA cancels remaining winter and spring championships

The Division III Administrative Committee took the following actions, effective immediately, on behalf of the Division III Management and Presidents Councils:

Student-athlete seasons of participation and eligibility: Approved a blanket waiver for all student-athletes participating in spring sports as follows: (a) Waive the use of a season of participation for all student-athletes in spring sports.  If an institution continues or re-starts its season, this relief would still exist; and (b) Waive the use of the spring semester towards their limit of 10 semesters/15 quarters, regardless of whether they used a season.

Next Steps

While this is not an easy decision to make, we feel that it is being made in the best interest of our student-athletes and our entire Wesley community. We are aware of the impact of these decisions. However, our top priority is the health and welfare of the entire Wesley community, and to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19. We appreciate your patience and understanding. As always GO WOLVERINES!

Please know that we continue to work with College administration to review, update, and communicate plans. This is an extremely fluid situation and all guidelines are subject to change with little notice.

Statement from Wesley College President Clark

"I know how hard it is when you no longer have the opportunity to compete with your teammates and play the sport you love, and have competed in since you were kid's.  The sadness I feel for our Seniors is deep, and is only mitigated by the extreme pride I feel for each and every one of you in the way you have represented Wolverine Nation, and made those all around you better through your example and leadership.

These are extraordinary times that we are living through, and as I mentioned in my previous updates we all have a role to play on our greater "community team" to do our best in helping stem the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Now more than ever your persistence, leadership, and Wolverine spirit will be put to the test as collectively we set the example and lead the way in defeating the spread of this virus…we can't control what has happened, but we can certainly affect the future, so together let's make history – stay informed, stay focused, stay safe, and let's Go 1-0 & BEAT COVID-19!!!"
