Pair of Homers Lead Baseball Past PSU Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Wesley College baseball team rallied to defeat Penn State Harrisburg, 4-3, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Thursday afternoon.  With the victory, the Wolverines improve to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the CAC while the Nittany Lions fall to 3-12 on the year and 0-3 in league play.

Trailing 3-0 after six innings, Wesley cut the deficit to a single run on a two-run home run by Stan Zulkowski, his second of the year, scoring Conner Gobright who singled just prior.  The following inning, after junior Rob Mills, who was making his Wolverines debut, recorded a 1-2-3 frame, sophomore Trevor Mears duplicated Zulkowski with a two-run blast of his own to give Wesley a 4-3 lead.  Scoring on Mears' roundtripper was Cory Smith who started the two-out rally with a single.

Now leading for the first time all game, the Wolverines replaced Mills with Andrew Cooper who closed the door for his league-leading third save of the season.

A junior from Centerville, Md., Mills was credited with the victory in relief of Eric Marrero, allowing just two hits while striking out one in a pair of innings.  Marrero was solid in the no-decision, allowing just three runs over five innings of play.  Giving up just one hit and a walk was Cooper, who continued his solid relief after earning CAC and ECAC weekly honors last week.

Also contributing to the Wolverines offense was Tyler Hunter, who had a pair of the team's eight hits in the day.

Wesley hosts Mary Washington in a 12 pm CAC doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 at Bob Reed Field.
