Baseball Falls to #1 Salisbury

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College Wolverines baseball team fell to the number one ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls on Wednesday afternoon. With the 7-3 loss, the Wolverines fall to 6-11, 4-6 in conference, while Sea Gulls advance to 15-0, 10-0 in the CAC.

Wesley scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Eric Speidel opened the inning with a single through the middle. Cory Smith then hit a shot to right field, an error by the right fielder saw Smith reach second and Speidel cross the plate. Matt Domian then grabbed a base hit and advanced to second as Smith drew the throw. Keandre Jones walked on four straight balls before Mike Calvarese hit one down the left field line to score both Smith and Domian.

Trailing 3-0, the Sea Gulls responded in the top of the fourth with two runs to cut the Wolverines lead to just one run. The top of the fifth saw the Sea Gulls put three on the board to take the lead back from the Wolverines. The Wolverines would not score again but the Sea Gulls would tally two more in the sixth.

Eric Willey, 1-3, took the loss in the game while Jon Schmedel, 2-0, picked up the win for Salisbury.

The Wolverines face off against St. Mary's College (Md) Seahawks on Thursday, April 2 at 3:30 PM.
