Wolverine Offense Comes up Short

DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Baseball team took an early 1-0 lead but couldn't generate any more offense as the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions stole a 4-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.

KeAndre Jones went 4-for-5 with a stolen base and Ron Morello went 3-for-3 while Chris Seibert drove in the Wolverines' only run, scored by Eric Speidel. Cody Simet began the game by retiring 10 straight batters but allowed three earned runs in seven innings to take the loss. Eric Willey allowed one run in the eighth and Sam Meck tossed a scoreless, hitless ninth frame.

Wesley's only run came in the bottom of the third when Speidel led off the inning by reaching base on an error. Jones singled off the pitcher to move him into scoring position and Trey Mears moved both runners over with a fielder's choice. Seibert drove in Speidel with a long sac fly to left making it 1-0.

The Nittany Lions were held scoreless until the sixth when they took a 2-1 lead and then added single insurance runs in the seventh and the eighth to take a 4-1 lead.

Down to their last out, the Wolverines put two runners on base and brought the tying run to the plate. Jones ripped a hard ground ball up the middle but it was stopped by the shortstop and flipped to second base for the force out to end the game.

Wesley moves to 9-10 on the season with a 3-4 mark in the Capital Athletic Conference. The squad will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they take on Washington College.
