Wesley powers through Eastern, 9-6

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College baseball team earned a 9-6 victory over the Eastern Eagles in a non-conference matchup Thursday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.

After falling behind 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third, Wesley tied the game up at two behind a RBI double by Trey Mears and a sacrifice fly by Mike Calvarese.

Eastern regained the lead behind a two-run fourth but a Chris Seibert two-run double to center field tied the game at four in the fifth inning.

Wesley took their first lead of the game on a three-run sixth inning. Will Barton laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to the right side of the infield to allow Michael Piccirillo to score from third. Then, Cody Dmiterchik knocked a two RBI double to left field to plate Barton and Aaron Briggs.

Eastern got a run back in the seventh but Wesley responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Briggs hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Calvarese from third base. A batter later, Mike Sabino came around to score on a single to left field.

Eastern did push a run across in the eighth but that their last tally of the game.

Ryan Devine registered his first victory of the season in a 3.1 innings of relief.

The 1-5 hitters for Wesley accounted for 10 hits and eight runs batted in.

The Wolverines (8-2) will resume Capital Athletic Conference play on Sunday when they host the Frostburg State Bobcats in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for a noon first pitch.
