DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College baseball team split a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) doubleheader with the Frostburg St. Bobcats on Sunday.

Powered by a five-run first inning, Wesley pulled out an 11-7 victory in game one over Frostburg St.

Wesley batted around in the first inning. After the first two batters of the inning reached base, Trey Mears scorched a single up the middle to score Will Barton. Two batters later, Mike Calvarese came through with a bases-loaded double past the diving third baseman to score Mears and Cody Dmiterchik. Michael Piccirillo also registered a bases-loaded two RBI double to plate Calvarese and Chris Seibert.

After Frostburg scored one in the third and two in the fourth. Wesley plated three runs in the fourth. Mears hit another single up the middle to bring Barton around from second base. Calvarese connected with another two-run hit, this time a single to left field to score Mears and Dmiterchik to make it an 8-3 ballgame.

Frostburg got four runs back in the top of the fifth but Wesley tallied a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to make the score 11-7.

Sam Meck pitched five innings to pick up his first win of the season. Connor Springsteen pitched four innings of scoreless relief to earn his first career save.

Mears and Calvarese each tallied three hits in the game. Calvarese notched four RBI while Mears scored three times and knocked in two runs.

Wesley and Frostburg played a marathon 13-inning affair in the back half of the doubleheader but Frostburg pulled out the 5-4 win over Wesley.

Frostburg scored first in the nightcap when Logan Corrigan hit a two-run homer to right center field.

Wesley chipped away at the Frostburg lead when Piccirillo doubled down the left field line to score Aaron Briggs in the fifth. Then Wesley took the 3-2 lead in the sixth when Seibert showed off some opposite field power down with a two RBI home run down the left field line.

Cody Simet got in a little bit of trouble with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning. Simet did walk home a run but that was the only damage that was done in the inning by Frostburg.

Frostburg recorded the first run of the extra frame when Matt Bougourd scored on a RBI single by Corrigan in the top of the 10th

Wesley wouldn't go down without a fight. Cody Dmiterchik knocked his first collegiate home run with one out in the bottom of the 10th.

After scoreless 11th and 12th innings, Frostburg's JT Tipton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Evan Colon from third base. Frostburg then stopped Wesley's comeback bid in the bottom of the inning to secure the doubleheader split.

Dmiterchik, Mears, Seibert and Piccirillo each had two hits in the second game.

The Wolverines (9-3, 2-1 CAC) are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host the Misericordia Cougars in a non-conference game.
