Wesley comes back late but falls to Salisbury, 9-8

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wesley College baseball team made it a close game late against the Salisbury Seagulls but fell 9-8 in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest on Friday.

Trailing 6-0 heading to the eighth inning, Wesley put up eight runs in the top to take the lead. All eight runs came across with two outs in the inning. The big blow in the eighth coming from a three-run double to right center field by William Foster.

Salisbury overtook Wesley in the bottom half of the eighth to regain the lead and stifle the Wesley comeback attempt.

Mike Sabino went 2-for-4 with a RBI while Foster, Aaron Briggs and Michael Piccirillo each tallied a hit for Wesley.

Alex Marrs went five innings for Wesley striking out five batters and only gave up three hits but walked six. Connor Springsteen got the tough loss for Wesley in 2.1 innings of relief.

Wesley (9-4, 2-2 CAC) will head to Southern Virginia to take on the Knights in a CAC doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
