Schmitt homers as baseball falls to Washington (Md.)

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College baseball team fell 10-4 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday against the Washington (Md.) Shoremen.

Wesley fell behind 7-0 after four innings. Wesley got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kevin Schmitt hit his first collegiate home run on a solo shot to left field.

Washington got two runs in the seventh before Wesley cut into the lead with a three-run eighth inning. After back-to-back walks to lead off the inning, Jarrett Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Schmitt from third base. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Chris Seibert smacked a single down the right-field line to allow Cody Dmiterchik and Jordan Marucci to score.

Seibert, Schmitt and Michael Piccirillo each collected hits. Schmitt hit a solo home run and scored twice.

Ryan Zwier had a two-hit day for Washington, including a three-run home run in the fourth.

The Wolverines (6-8) will return to Capital Athletic Conference play tomorrow when they travel down Route 13 to take on the Salisbury Sea Gulls. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
