DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College baseball team stumbled at home on Tuesday, 11-5 to the New Jersey City Gothic Knights in non-conference action.
Facing a 4-0 deficit to NJCU in the second inning, Wesley cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. John Joines brought William Foster on an RBI groundout to second base for Wesley's opening run of the game. A batter later, Jarrett Wallace hit an RBI single to left-center field to bring Schmitt home from second base.
NJCU had the 8-2 edge in the fifth inning when Wesley plated three runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Barton came around to score on an RBI single to right center. Schmitt's two-RBI double came with two outs in the inning that scored Seibert and Cody Dmiterchik.
After a tough beginning to the game, Connor Springsteen and Alex Marrs shut down the Gothic Knight bats in the final 3.2 innings of the game. Springsteen struck out four batters while only allowing two hits. Alex Marrs sat down two batters on strikes in a scoreless ninth inning.
The Wolverines will resume conference play on Thursday when they take on the Penn St. Harrisburg Lions. First pitch from Bob Reed Field is set for 3:45 p.m.
