2020-21 NJAC Football South Division All-Conference Team Announced

PITMAN, NJ --- Salisbury junior quarterback Jack Lanham (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert) and Wesley senior linebacker Dante Daniel (Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) have been named the NJAC Football South Division Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. Their selections headline the 32-member NJAC All-Conference South Division team. All selections were made by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Additionally, Christopher Newport senior punter/kicker Ben Garbarini (Bedford, VA/Liberty Christian) was named the NJAC South Division Special Teams Player of the Year. Wesley freshman duo La'Trell McCants (Suitland, MD/Suitland) and Marcus Johnson (District Heights, MD/Suitland) earned NJAC South Division Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. Wesley head coach Chip Knapp was named NJAC Coach of the Year.

A two-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Year, Lanham is now 13-1 as a starter over the last two seasons. The two-year captain averaged 73.0 yards passing per game this year, and scored three touchdowns in this shortened spring season. In the final rivalry series game with Wesley, his 13-yard pass tied the game in the second quarter. With the Sea Gulls leading by three late in the fourth, Lanham took the ball in on a 14-yard run to cushion the lead in the 32-30 win. Lanham is known for his leadership both on and off the field and was selected twice as team captain.

Daniel, a two-time NJAC All-Conference First Team honoree, was considered the heart and soul of the Wesley defense throughout his four years in Dover. The four-year starter and three-time team captain entered this spring season as a D3football.com Preseason All-American. On the field, he tackled 18 times in three games including nine solo stops and two tackles for loss. He also broke up a pass. He wraps up his career with 201 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 12 pass breakups, and four sacks.

A two-time NJAC All-Conference selection, Garbarini's versatile foot can handle kicking duties in all three phases. He punted 11 times for 360 yards (32.7 average), laying four punts inside the 20. He also kicked off twice in the rivalry game against Wesley, totaling 101 yards, and also completed an extra-point kick. Garbarini also made a 40-yard field goal in the contest against Salisbury. For his career, Garbarini has totaled 12 field goals, 36 PATs, and has a career punt average of 39.4 yards with 25 of his attempts being placed inside the 20.

McCants made his presence known in the NJAC right away this season, leading the conference in rushing, scoring, and all-purpose yards. He rushed 44 times for 233 yards (5.3 per carry) and averaged 77.7 yards per game. He rushed for three touchdowns and completed two two-point conversions. In his collegiate debut against Wesley, he totaled 63 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for 91 yards and two TDs in a win over Christopher Newport, and added 79 rushing yards in a win over Montclair State. McCants was named NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week after all three of the Wolverines' contests this season.

Johnson made a quick impact on the Wolverine defense this year, leading the team in sacks. He posted four tackles including one tackle for loss against Salisbury. Johnson's explosive first step made him difficult for opponents to block. He was big part of a Wesley defense that limited opponents to under 100 yards gained per game.

Knapp was named NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Wolverines to a 2-1 record in the final year of the program. He coached 14 players to all-conference honors this year, including the Defensive Player of the Year and both Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year. He spent 30 years at Wesley – the final three as head coach – and helped build the Wesley program into an NCAA Division III powerhouse over the years. In his career at Wesley, Knapp has coached players to 48 All-American honors, 99 All-Region honors and 136 All-Conference awards.
