One Word to Describe the 2019 Wesley Field Hockey Team is "Eager"

DOVER, Del – The Wesley field hockey team is eager to get the 2019 season going and defend their 2018 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) title.

The team will be entering their second season in the Atlantic East Conference and they are thrilled to be part of the conference.

The Wolverines have a hard working, driven group of young girls returning to the field, led by the 2018 AEC championship game most valuable player, Jessica Behornar and the Wesley's 2018 Atlantic East first teamer Kaila Hindt.

Behornar scored both of the goals in the 2018 AEC championship game. Hindt showed her power on the field last season by leading the team, for the second year in a row, with 13 goals, six assists for 32 points.

In the net, Wesley returns seniors Sidney Knott and Bridget Wood and junior Lauren Berry. All three saw significant playing time last year and will compete for the starting job in 2019.

"We are very excited to get the season started.  The ladies have worked hard all summer and preseason to be ready.  We are going to use our momentum from the end of last season to be a better team in every position" described Coach Short.

In the AEC preseason poll, Wesley is slated to finish third in the conference, picking up 16 points and one first-place vote. Gwynedd Mercy is projected to win the conference with 22 votes and three first-place votes. Marywood coming in at number two with 20 points and two first place votes.  Followed by Wesley is Neumann in fourth, Cabrini in fifth and Immaculata in last.

The Wolverines will open the season on Saturday, August 31st at Virginia Wesleyan. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
