WYOMING, Del. – After the first round of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Golf Championship, Wesley College freshman Mason Mendoza leads the pack by four strokes with a two-under, 70, on Saturday afternoon at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club. The Wolverines sit in second place as a team, shooting a 314 which is ten strokes behind York (Pa.) and eight shots ahead of Marymount (Va.).
A native of Dover, Del., Mendoza recorded a round-high seven birdies, while shooting four-under on Par 5's and even par on Par 4's. Included in his round was five-straight birdies, starting on the 15th hole, through the rest of the back nine and concluding with a birdie on one. Mendoza leads by four strokes over Peter Johns of Marymount and York's Tyler Keim.
Defending CAC Champion Robert Ehrhardt finished with a three-over 75 and sits in a tie for fourth place, while Clayton Bunting shot an eight-over 80, to rank ninth. Madison Leone shot a season-high 89 to round out the scoring for the Wolverines.
The final round of the CAC Tournament will tee off at 10 am on Sunday, April 28.
