Men’s Hoops Falls at Hot-Shooting St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Wesley College's men's basketball team held a brief early lead but fell at St. Mary's, 84-67, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at O'Brien Arc Arena.  The Wolverines now stand at 10-13 overall and 8-8 in the CAC while the Seahawks move to 18-4 on the year and 14-2 in league play.

After a Quincy Pettiford free throw gave Wesley a 6-2 lead with 17:58 left in the first, St. Mary's scored 11-straight points over the next 2:34 to take a 13-6 lead.  Wesley stopped the bleeding with back-to-back layups by Pettiford and AJ Tilghman to make it a one possession game but that would be as close as it would get the remainder of the game as the Seahawks took a 44-34 lead into halftime.

St. Mary's shot over 61% from the floor in the first half and they did not cool down, finishing with a 60.8% percentage for the game compared to just 40.4% for the Wolverines.

Three Wesley players finished in double figures, led by Tilghman's 15 points.  Pettiford added 13 and JW Lawson chipped in with ten points in his first career start.

Troy Spurrier led all players with 25 points off the bench on 10-of-11 shooting.

The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, February 18 at Penn State Harrisburg for an 8 pm tipoff.
