Wesley honors seniors against Southern Virginia

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's lacrosse team dropped a close 14-9 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) decision to the Southern Virginia Knights to wrap up the 2017 season.

Wesley had an early 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter on goals from Hunter Coho and Zach Weitzel but Southern Virginia took a 7-4 lead into halftime behind six second-quarter goals. Wesley did score five second-half goals but mount a comeback against Southern Virginia.

Josh Wassum led Wesley with four goals and an assist. Wassum also scooped up six ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Coho, Weitzel, Leo Kelly, Will Fingles, Nate Gemmato each tallied goals in the loss. Kelly and Joe Fingles notched two assists respectively.

On defense, Alex Collins picked up six ground balls and caused three turnovers while Gemmato, Coho and Ben Mitzel each recorded two caused turnovers.

James Cella had a game-high 17 saves in goal for Wesley.

Casey Rich registered four goals and two assists for Southern Virginia.

The Wolverines end the 2017 season 4-12 overall and 0-8 in the CAC.
