DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's lacrosse team looks to embark on a new journey in 2019 with the first season of the Atlantic East Conference.
Wesley enters the 2019 season picked sixth in the first-ever Atlantic East Conference Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Poll, which was released earlier in February.
"We're excited about being a part of this conference," states head coach Bill Gorrow who enters his 11th year at the helm of the men's lacrosse program.
Although the team is fairly young, Wesley returns eight upperclassmen, including three seniors who will be staples on both sides of the ball. On the attack, the Wolverines are led by Zach Farnell who tallied a career-high 17 points during his junior campaign including scoring a career-best 13 goals. Farnell proved to be an offensive threat early last year opening up the season tallying a total of five points and scoring four goals through the first two games of the 2018 season.
Seniors Ben Mitzel and Joshua Short return for Wesley as the defensive leaders. During the 2018 season, Mitzel was second among the defensive core in scooping up ground balls with 32. Short finished third on the team in caused turnovers with 22 while Mitzel finished right behind Short with 21.
Nick Bruhn returns to the team after sitting out the 2018 season. Bruhn who registered 28 ground balls, won 25 faceoffs and caused 10 turnovers during his first season in a Wolverine uniform will look to make the same impact in the 2019 season.
Wesley opens the 2019 season on the road on Saturday, Feb. 23 against the Wilkes Colonels. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
